Renew Your Mind

God's truth that, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he," can haunt you or help you. You can choose to live tormented by life's past scripting, controlled by thoughts you never even chose or with God's help you can consciously begin to write a future entirely different from the past. You can change. And that transformation begins with your mind and your thoughts.

Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world,
but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
Romans 12:2

Have you ever noticed that where your mind goes your body goes also? Even as I dream about the leftover cheesecake, my body begins to move towards the refrigerator. When I listen to the mental tape of my childhood telling me I must please all people all the time, I add that one more thing to my already overloaded schedule. As I think, I act. As I act, I become. Scary, isn’t it?

What if you and I took that same process: thinking = becoming, and used it to our advantage? What if with every negative thought I consciously chose to replace it and renew my mind with the truth, God’s truth?

When I think:
…pleasing others is all important, I can renew my mind with this:

Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God?
Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men,
I would not be a servant of Christ.
Galatians 1:10

…this will never work out. I meditate on:

And we know that God causes all things to
work together for good to those who love God,
to those who are called according to His purpose.
Romans 8:28

...anxiety is normal because life is stressful.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
I Peter 5:7
